Baruipur Rape-Murder Case: Bengal Police Intensify Probe, Examine Shack as Possible Crime Scene
Investigators say the victim was alive when she was thrown into water, and police are examining a shack as a possible crime scene.
A six-member Special Investigation Team and Baruipur police arrested three of four suspects on Tuesday, including prime accused Ananda Sardar, following overnight search operations in the alleged rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl.
One accused allegedly took the minor to a shack where two others were present and consumed intoxicants before the assault; the victim's body was found stuffed in a sack in Surjyapur Haat on Sunday.
Preliminary post-mortem findings indicate ante-mortem drowning, suggesting the victim was alive when thrown into the pond. Investigators await forensic and viscera reports to determine if the crime occurred inside the shack.
The National Commission for Women sought a detailed Action Taken Report from Bengal DGP Siddh Nath Gupta on Monday, requiring updates on FIR registration, investigation progress, and victim family support amid subsequent mob violence.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated the government will ensure the family receives justice and perpetrators are prosecuted. Describing the incident as a "sensitive case," Gupta told reporters, "We will not be able to divulge much about the investigation at this stage.
