Barbie Exhibition Opens at Kelvingrove with 250 Objects on Display This Weekend
The show features more than 150 dolls and rare items, including a hand-painted first edition Barbie and inclusive versions of the doll.
On Saturday, June 13, 'Barbie: The Exhibition' opens at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, marking the show's first Scottish venue.
Presented by Glasgow Life, the Design Museum, and Mattel Inc, the exhibition explores Barbie's 67-year design history from its 1959 debut through contemporary cultural impact.
Notable displays include a rare, hand-painted 1959 Number 1 Barbie alongside the 1971 Sunset Malibu Barbie and 1992 Totally Hair Barbie, whose lengthy locks extended to her toes.
Beyond the dolls, a dedicated section charts Ken's evolution since 1961, while the 'Barbie Land' display showcases costumes from the 2023 film.
The exhibition runs at Kelvingrove until October 18 before embarking on a world tour, which Bailie Annette Christie, chair of Glasgow Life, called a 'standout cultural experience.
