When it comes to maintaining confidence in our justice system, the perception of fairness may be as important as fairness itself. Independent courts are the cornerstone of a democracy. When judges are assailed for doing their job, our elected leaders should defend their integrity and independence. When it’s the leaders doing the assailing, however, things get sticky.
