Brazil’s Biggest Bank Itaú Joins Tokenization Pilot for Bonds and Funds

Itaú and OpenAssets will help test tokenized debentures and funds as ANBIMA evaluates issuance, trading and settlement on a simulated DLT network.

  • On Tuesday, OpenAssets announced a collaboration with Itaú, Latin America's largest financial institution, to advance tokenization within the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association pilot.
  • The Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association is testing the lifecycle of capital markets instruments using Distributed Ledger Technology , having selected 20 use cases from more than 50 proposals in April.
  • OpenAssets provides tokenization infrastructure while Itaú contributes market expertise to test fixed-income securities and investment funds on a private, permissioned DLT network in a simulated environment.
  • Gabor Gurbacs, Chairman and CEO of OpenAssets, said Brazil is a "natural place to move tokenization from exploration to production," helping evaluate efficiency gains for the financial ecosystem.
  • Tokenized real-world assets on public blockchains have more than doubled over the past year, rising from around $18.9 billion in August 2025 to $38.3 billion today, according to RWA data.
