Tension Remains Among Montana Democrats After Bankhead Stays in Senate Race
Bankhead said she will continue her campaign despite months of intraparty conflict that have drawn national attention, officials said.
On Monday, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alani Bankhead confirmed she will remain on the ballot, rejecting calls to withdraw before the filing deadline.
Party lawmakers and supporters of independent candidate Seth Bodnar argued that a head-to-head race against Republican nominee Kurt Alme offered the best chance for victory.
Amid the pressure, Bankhead reported that she and her family, including her underage daughter, were placed on a "target list of harassment" and received death threats.
Montana Democratic Party executive director Emily Marburger condemned "bullying tactics" at a Tuesday press conference in Helena, denouncing harassment used to influence the Senate race.
Rejecting claims that the party is "dead," Marburger vowed to rebuild the organization from the ground up while focusing on electing candidates to office.
