The Awami League announced a nationwide protest on Tuesday. The party called the ICT decision illegal and demanded the immediate resignation of interim government chief Muhammad Yunus, calling him an illegal occupier and a killer-fascist.

A Dhaka court sentenced Sheikh Hasina, who was Prime Minister of Bangladesh until August last year, to death a week ago on charges of crimes against humanity for her role in the crackdown on youth uprisings in July and August 2024. Around 1,400 civilians were killed by police forces at the time, and many more were injured and arrested.
