Separatists who attacked a passenger train in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Tuesday and kidnapped more than 400 passengers said they had killed 50 people. Authorities said they had rescued 300. The drama lasted more than 30 hours.

The security forces speak of 155 people rescued, while the Army for the Liberation of Balochistan says it still has more than 200. The separatists have called for an exchange of prisoners within 48 hours. Over the past year, the armed group has imposed blockades on major highways and intensified its actions against infrastructure, while Islamabad is unable to propose a political solution.
