BAE Systems selected to enhance ground system for Space Force missile warning satellites
- On April 28, 2025, BAE Systems was awarded a contract by the Space Systems Command of the U.S. Space Force to develop a satellite command and control system for the FORGE program, headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado.
- The selection addresses the requirement to phase out the aging Defense Support Program satellites and shift the SBIRS constellation to the more advanced and durable Next-Gen OPIR missile warning satellites.
- FORGE C2 integrates telemetry, tracking, command functions, satellite movement analysis, mission oversight, and management of terrestrial assets into a unified platform, aiming to streamline satellite operations and lower associated expenses.
- The contract includes a $151 million Phase 2 prototype awarded to BAE Systems, with the full system expected to be operational by 2028 to support both legacy and Next-Gen OPIR constellations.
