Badrinath–Kedarnath Temple Committee Proposes Ban on Non-Hindus

  • On January 26, the Shri Gangotri Temple Committee decided unanimously on Sunday to prohibit non-Hindus from entering Gangotri Dham, Chairman Suresh Semwal said.
  • In background to the Gangotri decision, Shri Badrinath and Kedarnath Temple Committee Chairman Hemant Dwivedi said a similar proposal will be placed before the board in its upcoming meeting to ban non-Hindus from Dhams and managed temples.
  • The Ganga Sabha urged a ban on non-Hindus at all Ganga ghats in Haridwar Kumbh, saying, `Whether it is a government department, an institution or a media person, the entry of all non-Hindus should be prohibited at these places in the Kumbh area.`
  • Gates at Gangotri are currently closed due to snowfall, and the four Char Dhams shut annually between October and November, reopening around April or May.
  • The proposal also covers Mukhba village, winter abode of Maa Ganga, and Hemant Dwivedi, Chairman of Shri Badrinath and Kedarnath Temple Committee, confirmed the rule applies during the winter months.
