Milltown was established in 1879, and the Island Park Ballroom pavilion was built in 1921. Unfortunately, shortly after its construction, the ballroom was struck by lightning and burned. Not being quitters, the community rebuilt the pavilion in 1923. During the 1940s, many dances were advertised as lasting from midnight until dawn for dancers with plenty of stamina.
