'Baby Snake' Found in Bihar School Mid-Day Meal, over 150 Children Fall Ill
Authorities collected food samples and sent 115 children to Saharsa Sadar Hospital as investigators probed possible contamination in the school meal.
On Thursday, more than 150 schoolchildren fell ill at Middle School Balwaha in Bihar's Saharsa district after consuming a government-supplied mid-day meal, triggering a large-scale medical response.
Acting Principal Anupama Kumari halted distribution after an object was discovered in a student's plate; the meal was supplied by an external NGO.
Saharsa District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar reported that 115 children were referred to Sadar Hospital, while another 40 to 50 students received care at the Mahishi Community Health Centre.
Authorities have launched an official inquiry and collected food samples for examination, though family members allege a snake was found in the meal without official confirmation.
Doctors report the children are stable and improving under observation; Kumar stated there is "no need to panic" as the investigation continues.
