- On Tuesday, Governor Abigail Spanberger joined Avio USA leadership to break ground on a $500 million aerospace manufacturing facility in Pittsylvania County that will produce solid rocket motors for defense and commercial space sectors.
- Governor Spanberger announced the project in February; the facility will span approximately 900,000 square feet at the Southern Virginia Multimodal Park in Hurt, a town with roughly 1,300 residents.
- CEO James Syring aims to operate as an "independent, open-source merchant supplier" supporting multiple defense programs. The project will create more than 1,500 jobs, supported by the Virginia Talent Accelerator Program, the nation's top customized workforce training program.
- Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery credited the Commonwealth's aerospace expertise and prepared site for attracting the subsidiary, while regional organizations including the Virginia Economic Development Partnership secured the investment.
