Avalanche Energy Awarded $10 Million Grant From Washington State to Develop FusionWERX Neutron Factory
WASHINGTON STATE, JUL 23 – Avalanche Energy advanced tabletop fusion by operating its machine at 300,000 volts and is building FusionWERX, a $10 million test facility for fusion research access, officials said.
- Avalanche Energy was awarded a $10 million grant on July 23, 2025, by Washington State to build the FusionWERX fusion test facility in Richland.
- This grant follows Avalanche's 300 kV breakthrough and supports their efforts to commercialize compact fusion machines for diverse applications.
- FusionWERX will operate as a commercial test site offering access to fusion prototypes from Avalanche and other entities while protecting intellectual property.
- CEO Robin Langtry said the 300 kV milestone at 6 MV/m is foundational for future high-performance fusion devices and revenue projected between $30 million and $50 million by 2029.
- The grant and facility are expected to create family-wage jobs, advance fusion science, attract investment, and position Avalanche for profitability by 2028.

Avalanche Energy Gets $10 Million to Test Micro-Fusion Reactors
Flash back to four summers ago, when aspiring fusion pioneers Robin Langtry and Brian Riordan were stuck designing rockets at Blue Origin, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ aerospace and space tourism company. More specifically, they were ruminating on how their engine’s large size was preventing the team from iterating quickly. “If your rocket engine is 12 feet tall, there’s like, three places in the country where you can get castings,” Langtry told me.
