Renault Aims to Stop Selling Fuel-only Cars in Europe by 2030
Renault aims for 100% electrified sales in Europe by 2030, increasing Dacia’s electric range and launching 22 new models, including 16 electric vehicles, the company said.
- On March 10, Renault said it aims to end sales of simple internal combustion engine vehicles in Europe by 2030 and will co-develop a new electric car platform and carOS with Google.
- To lift Renault-brand volume, the company plans a nearly 23% sales rise to two million per year by 2030, shifting Dacia's range from one to four electric models as 40% of last year's Europe sales were fossil fuel-powered.
- Renault also prioritises software and charging upgrades, aiming for 90% of vehicle functions to be updateable remotely and ultra-fast charging in as little as 10 minutes, while releasing 22 new models in Europe including 16 electric ones.
- The company faces margin pressure as Renault's operating margin fell from 7.6% in 2024 to 6.3% last year, is set to drop to 5.5% next year, and electric vehicles earn less profit than fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
- Against a backdrop of industry write-downs, Renault's CEO François Provost said the ambition to achieve 100 percent electrified sales in Europe and 50 percent outside by 2030 contrasts with rival Stellantis' €22-billion EV write-down last month.
