Bondi Attack Suspects Trained by Islamic Fighters in Philippines
The suspects traveled to the Philippines last month for alleged Islamic State military training before killing 16 and injuring 43 at a Hanukkah event, police said.
- On Tuesday, investigators said a father-and-son attack at the Chanukah by the Sea festival in Archer Park next to Bondi Beach killed 16 and injured 43 amid a crowd of over 1,000.
- Australian investigators revealed the Akrams travelled to Manila, Philippines last month, then to Davao, Mindanao, returning to Sydney on 28 November; Lanyon said, `The reasons why they went to the Philippines... is under investigation.`
- Prior ASIO scrutiny and immigration records reveal Naveed was investigated in 2019 while Sajid used an Indian passport and Naveed travelled on an Australian passport after renting Campsie accommodation.
- Police said Sajid was shot dead by officers while Naveed was subdued by bystanders and remains critical, Jewish events were cancelled, security boosted, and the National Cabinet plans tougher gun laws and a public memorial.
