Aussie speedster makes statement while back from injury
Mahli Beardman took 4-23 in his return from a back injury as Nathan McSweeney’s 123 set up the 125-run win.
On Tuesday, Australia A defeated India A by 125 runs at the CAP Ground in Puducherry, with Mahli Beardman taking 4-23 and Nathan McSweeney scoring 123 in the tourists' 274-run total.
Speedster Beardman ramped up his return to cricket following a stress injury that ended his previous season early, taking three wickets from his first 12 balls in his third match back.
After early struggles at 87 for five, McSweeney anchored the innings with 123, partnering with captain Will Sutherland for a 50-run stand that stabilized the innings.
India A collapsed to 149 all out in reply, with Rajat Patidar providing sole resistance with 53, as Beardman's pace dismantled the top order and ended chase hopes.
Australia coach Andrew McDonald noted the A series presented "tricky conditions," observing that some Test hopefuls failed to secure runs during the tour opener in Puducherry.
