ATV rider dies in crash in the hills above Peachland
RCMP say the 72-year-old rider was separated from a companion before the ATV left the trail and rolled down a steep embankment.
- On Wednesday, July 29, a 72-year-old man died after his ATV rolled down a steep embankment near the former Gladstone Mine in Peachland, West Kelowna RCMP confirmed on Thursday.
- After becoming separated from a companion on trails near Ponderosa Road, the rider's ATV left the path, travelled down an embankment, and struck trees, according to police.
- Central Okanagan Search and Rescue deployed 16 volunteers, including a specialized ATV/UTV team, to assist RCMP and emergency responders in accessing the remote crash site.
- The man was pronounced dead at the scene; Const. Ash Puri of West Kelowna RCMP stated, "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time."
- BC Coroners Service is conducting an independent investigation into the fatality, while RCMP noted that neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in the collision.
