2 men behind explosion inside a Harvard Medical School building avoid jail time
The pair admitted using a commercial firework and were ordered to pay $28,517 after causing property damage and a campus security response.
On Thursday, Logan David Patterson and Dominick Frank Cardoza were sentenced to three years of probation for detonating a commercial firework inside Harvard Medical School's Goldenson Building during a November 2025 break-in.
The two men, who had no prior criminal records, trespassed during Halloween festivities before detonating the device in a wooden filing cabinet, causing significant property damage and public alarm.
U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley sentenced the pair to 300 hours of community service and a joint $28,517 fine, denying a prosecution request for six months of home confinement.
Defense attorney Stefan Rozembersky argued the incident was "mischief that went way out of control," while Judge Kelley noted the conviction itself serves as a "sufficient deterrent."
Both men now carry felony records, which Stefan Rozembersky said will "harm them for a long time" by restricting their future opportunities and professional prospects.
