Tri-county administrators call for repeal or delay of SNAP changes in ‘Big Beautiful Bill’
GOUVERNEUR — Members of each of the tri-county offices held a news conference on Friday to discuss changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, and the impact it will have on local governments.
Households receiving or applying for food stamps will have new eligibility rules and maximum payments for fiscal year 2027. In most states, caps rise; Hawaii is the exception.
The maximum benefit will not be the same for all families: the payment depends on the size of the household, the net income and deductions allowed, such as housing, services, care of dependants and certain medical expenses.
