Athletics prospect Ryan Lasko says feeling in his legs returning after collision with his teammate
Ryan Lasko said he has sensation from his feet to his knees and involuntary leg movement after surgery for a fractured vertebra.
- On Monday, Athletics prospect Ryan Lasko announced he has regained sensation in his legs nearly four weeks after breaking his back during a collision. He shared the recovery progress on Instagram, marking a significant milestone.
- Lasko broke his back on June 30 after colliding with teammate Devin Taylor while both dove for a flyball during a Double-A game in Frisco, Texas. He remained motionless on the field for approximately 10 minutes before being carted off.
- Following the accident, Lasko underwent spinal surgery at a hospital in Plano, Texas, to repair a fractured C6-C7 vertebra. Doctors were hopeful he would regain lower body movement, a prognosis he confirmed is now occurring.
- "I have sensation from my feet up to my knees, along with a lot of involuntary leg movements," Lasko wrote on Instagram. He reported about 75% usage of his left hand and about 50% in his right.
- Drafted as a second-round pick out of Rutgers in 2023, the 24-year-old is rated as the Athletics' 27 prospect by MLB Pipeline. Before the injury, he was batting.209 with six homers and 34 RBIs in 73 games this season.
