In at least 99 municipalities in the Netherlands, no fireworks may be set off at all during the upcoming New Year's Eve, not even by associations. That is well over a quarter of the 342 municipalities. More will certainly be added. Moreover, municipalities that do want to allow it are often reluctant.
During the upcoming New Year's Eve, no permits will be granted for the use of consumer fireworks in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region. This was announced by the safety region, which covers thirteen municipalities. Only professional fireworks displays are still eligible for an exemption.
Associations are not allowed to set off fireworks during the upcoming New Year's Eve. That news comes as no surprise to traders. "It has been unclear for a very long time; this makes it bitter."
