- Following the collision, Matthews crouched on the field for several minutes while trainer Eric Velazquez attended to him and manager Joe Espada observed the situation.
- Although Matthews finished the inning facing one additional batter, Taylor Trammell pinch-hit for him in the second inning, replacing the injured center fielder.
