Asian stocks are mixed after Wall Street losses following economic updates
Nvidia’s stronger-than-expected results lifted U.S. futures as Asian markets traded unevenly and oil prices fell, with the company’s revenue more than doubling.
Asian stocks were mixed on Thursday as investors weighed Nvidia's strong earnings, which boosted Wall Street futures after the tech company reported its May-July revenue more than doubled.
Nvidia's results act as a bellwether for the chips industry, where massive investments have sparked concerns among investors over a potential bubble and companies' ability to justify rising costs.
South Korea's Kospi rose 1.5% and The Shanghai Composite gained 0.6%, while Japan's Nikkei slipped 0.2%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 0.4%, and Australia's ASX dropped 0.9%.
Outside of earnings, Meta Platforms added 1.1% after agreeing to pay up to $18 billion to settle claims, while international Benchmark Brent crude lost 0.5% to $86.49 per barrel.
Data showed economic growth at a 1.5% pace, while China reported that growth in industrial profits slowed to 11.2%, down from 15.1% in the prior period.
