ACC President Mohsin Naqvi to Miss India-Pakistan Asian Games Final
Naqvi cited prior commitments, and his absence avoids a potential trophy presentation dispute after Indian teams refused medals from him in previous tournaments.
ACC President Mohsin Naqvi will skip Saturday's Asian Games 2026 cricket final between India and Pakistan in Nagoya, Japan, citing prior commitments ahead of the high-stakes gold medal match.
Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan Interior Minister, is a contentious figure for the BCCI; Indian teams previously refused to accept Asia Cup trophies from him, citing the Pahalgam terror attack and 'Operation Sindoor'.
The BCCI had requested that Naqvi allow a deputy to present trophies, but he remained adamant that India must collect the Asia Cup trophies from him directly, complicating previous medal ceremonies.
His absence avoids a potentially volatile diplomatic situation during the medal ceremony, allowing the Olympic Council of Asia and the Indian Olympic Association to proceed without expected friction.
In a statement on Friday, Naqvi said, "Wishing all the participants the very best ahead of gold and bronze medal matches at the Asian Games 2026. Commitments will keep me away from Nagoya.
