With Festivities and Papal Prayer, the Vatican Aims to Attract the Young - West Hawaii Today
ROME, ITALY, JUL 29 – The Jubilee of Youth gathered over one million young Catholics worldwide for reconciliation, prayer, and cultural events to inspire faith amid global challenges, organizers said.
- Pope Leo XIV arrived by helicopter Saturday evening at Tor Vergata in Rome for a vigil of prayer and readings, part of a large youth event ending August 3.
- This event, coinciding with the Roman Catholic Jubilee held every 25 years, aims to engage young Catholics amid declining attendance and growing skepticism worldwide.
- The Vatican's communication department organized the event with outreach online as a key evangelization method, supported by hundreds of young digital faith promoters from 70 countries.
- Attendance this year was expected around 500,000, much lower than the 4 million youths at the 1995 Manila World Youth Day, and Pope Leo XIV urged youth to be 'living testimonies of peace'.
- The celebration will close with a Solemn Mass on August 3, presided over by Pope Leo XIV, highlighting ongoing efforts to renew youth faith in a time of global uncertainty.
