Dutch cycling ace Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech) won the second stage of the race from the Tyrrhenian to the Adriatic Sea. The former world champion was the best in a sprint of the trio that had the most power on the final climb to San Gimignano. Second place was taken by Mexico's Isaac del Toro and third by Italy's Giulio Pellizzari.

The second stage of the Tyrrhenian to Adriatic Sea race was from Camaiore to San Gimignano (206 km). It was a challenging route in the second half, and in the last seven kilometers the cyclists also had a five-kilometer macadam section. The last kilometer and a half to the finish line was uphill on a regular road. The stage was won by the Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel. Primož Roglič took 11th place, 17 seconds behind the winner.
