Arsenal Pay Tribute to Life President Ken Friar After Death Aged 92
The former managing director worked for Arsenal from 1946 and helped oversee the club’s move to the Emirates Stadium, the club said.
- On Tuesday, Arsenal announced the death of Life President Ken Friar OBE at age 92, with the club describing his legacy as 'extraordinary' following more than eight decades of service to the Gunners.
- Friar began as a messenger in 1945 before rising to club secretary in 1973 and managing director in 1983, overseeing Arsenal's pivotal move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium during his tenure.
- Awarded an OBE in 2000 for services to football, Friar also received the Freedom of the Borough of Islington in 2004, and Arsenal honored his enduring popularity by naming the Ken Friar Bridge.
- Arsenal players will wear black armbands during Tuesday evening's Champions League match against Lille at the Emirates Stadium, with the club arranging for supporters to pay their respects to Friar.
- Further commemorations are planned when the Gunners host Everton in the Premier League on October 24, concluding tributes for Friar, who served as life president since stepping down as executive director in 2020.
