Suspect Arrested After Pokémon Cards Worth over $100,000 Stolen From Store
NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS, JUL 23 – Richard Jovahn Nunes, 24, faces six counts of receiving stolen property after rare Pokémon cards valued at $115,000 were recovered following a smash and grab theft, police said.
- On Wednesday, New Bedford police announced the arrest of Richard Jovahn Nunes, linked to the theft of over $115,000 in Pokémon cards from 1st Edition Collectibles in New Bedford.
- On July 8, security footage captured a masked man smashing the glass door of 1st Edition Collectibles around 2:30 a.m., then grabbing items in just 30 seconds.
- Following reports of attempted sales, detectives searched a Dartmouth apartment and discovered a shoebox with the stolen cards, recovering multiple high-value Pokémon Charizard.
- Richard Jovahn Nunes pleaded not guilty to six counts of receiving stolen property during his arraignment, according to court records, and faced an active warrant, police said.
- Police said Wednesday they will continue the investigation and urged tips via 508-99-CRIME, and 1st Edition Collectibles will donate proceeds from its Comeback Collection shirts launched July 18 to charity.
