Indian Army Successfully Conducts Trials of Indigenous Akash Prime Air Defence System in Ladakh Sector
LADAKH, JUL 16 – Akash Prime scored two direct hits on high-speed aerial targets during trials, demonstrating enhanced precision and readiness for deployment in challenging high-altitude conditions, officials said.
- On July 16, 2025, the Indian Army conducted high-altitude trials of the indigenously developed Akash Prime missile system in Ladakh, at over 15,000 feet.
- Developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation with an indigenous active RF seeker, designed for high-altitude, low-temperature conditions, and to reduce reliance on foreign OEMs.
- During the trials, Akash Prime scored two direct hits on fast-moving aerial targets, with missiles capable of a 25–30 km range and launchable from a mobile platform.
- Rajnath Singh called it `remarkable achievement`, noting India’s progress in indigenous military technologies.
- According to the Ministry of Defence, Akash Prime will soon join the third and fourth regiments, a move defence experts believe will expand India’s air defence network in the coming years.
