Army colonel, wife not gunned down in Abuja - FCT police

Police said the attack happened during an attempted abduction, and the officer’s wife, driver and a guard were also shot and hospitalized.

  • On Monday, Nigerian Army Colonel Abdussalam Ude was shot dead resisting an abduction attempt at his residence in the Kurudu area near Abuja.
  • The FCT Police Command clarified on Tuesday that the incident occurred in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, not within FCT jurisdiction as initially reported.
  • Ude's wife, driver, and security guard sustained gunshot injuries; the officer from Enugu State had served in strategic intelligence roles in Chad and France and was due for promotion next year.
  • His burial was held on Tuesday at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja following Islamic rites, while the FCT Commissioner ordered deployment of operational assets to border communities.
  • Kidnapping cases remain persistent in communities on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory, with security agencies launching efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for Ude's death.
