Armoured vehicle accident in Haiti kills 2 and injures 8 Kenyan police officers
The Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support mission has suffered three officer deaths and numerous injuries in Haiti since June 2024 amid ongoing gang violence challenges.
- NPS confirmed on Sunday that a Kenyan MSS officer died in a road accident on August 31, 2025, at Pelerin 9 along the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville road near Port‑au‑Prince.
- During a recovery operation, one MaxxPro armoured vehicle developed mechanical problems while towing another, causing one to crash and the other to overturn.
- After initial care at Aspen Level 2 Hospital at the LSA 2, three critically injured MSS officers were airlifted to the Dominican Republic, while one civilian and one officer died shortly after arrival.
- The service is coordinating repatriation of the officer's body to Kenya and extended condolences, assuring support to the bereaved family and colleagues, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.
- Kenya leads the MSS with 800 officers deployed since June 2024; this is the third Kenyan officer to die as gang violence intensifies in Port‑au‑Prince.
