Corbin Carroll Hits Grand Slam, E-Rod Earns 100th Win in D-Backs' 8-1 Victory over the Angels
Carroll’s fifth career grand slam helped Arizona score five runs in the second inning, and Rodriguez became the ninth Venezuelan-born pitcher with 100 wins.
On Wednesday, Corbin Carroll hit a grand slam and Eduardo Rodriguez earned his 100th career win as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Los Angeles Angels 8-1 in Phoenix.
Facing a three-week offensive slump ranked last in MLB, the Diamondbacks' five-run second inning provided immediate relief to the 28,433 fans at Chase Field.
Rodriguez dominated for seven innings, striking out 5K while allowing one run, improving his record to 6-2 and lowering his ERA to 2.45.
"The dugout felt an immediate sigh of relief and it took the air out of some very tense moments," manager Torey Lovullo said of the past 12-14 days.
The Diamondbacks host the Minnesota Twins for a three-game series beginning Friday, while the Angels travel to face the Athletics starting Thursday.
