Sir Kevin Sinfield: Rob Burrow Would ‘Laugh but Be Really Proud’ at Knighthood
The former rugby league captain was honoured for more than £13 million raised for motor neurone disease charities and years of endurance challenges.
Prince William knighted Kevin Sinfield at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, honoring the rugby league legend's fundraising efforts for motor neurone disease charities in memory of his late teammate Rob Burrow.
Inspired by Burrow's diagnosis six years ago, Sinfield launched his campaign using the '7 in 7' challenge format reflecting Burrow's shirt number at Leeds Rhinos, ultimately raising more than £13 million for MND causes.
Sinfield, 46, admitted he has not adjusted to the title "Sir Kevin," stating, "It's really nice, but every time I hear that, I go straight back to why we started," while remaining "massively humbled by the whole experience."
Widow Lindsey Burrow called the recognition "bittersweet," noting her husband "would have been incredibly proud" of his friend; the ceremony honored 60 individuals, with Sinfield recognized for services to the MND community and rugby.
Sinfield plans to organize a run in Australia and New Zealand next year, intending to evolve his fundraising strategy and ensure collaboration between nations working to find a cure for motor neurone disease.
