Kim Jong Un's Sister Blasts ASEAN for Urging North Korea Denuclearisation
Kim Yo Jong said ASEAN was echoing U.S. policy and dismissed its denuclearization demand as a "stupid and foolish" wild dream.
On Monday, Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, criticized ASEAN for seeking denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, calling the group's position "stupid and foolish."
The ASEAN Regional Forum released a statement Saturday after its 33rd meeting in Manila, calling for the "complete denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula and expressing "grave concern" over nuclear weapons development.
Kim stated the North's nuclear status is "final and irreversible," asserting that nuclear deterrence is the "supreme guarantee for defending sovereignty" and its arsenal would be "updated steadily."
For the second consecutive year, North Korea skipped the ARF meeting while deepening ties with Russia, having enshrined its nuclear status in its constitution in 2023.
Despite international pressure via UNSC Resolutions forbidding nuclear programs, Pyongyang maintains its arsenal is "the line of no retreat" and dismissed the forum's call as a "wild dream.
Kim Yo-jong appeals to the Asean states to beware of "being abused as a paid mouthpiece of the US." She is one of the closest confidants of her brother, the North Korean dictator.
