Archer Wins Competitive Bid Process to Acquire Lilium's Patent Portfolio

Archer Aviation acquired about 300 eVTOL patents from bankrupt Lilium, adding to its 1,000+ patent portfolio and strengthening its position in advanced air mobility.

  • At NBAA 2025 in Las Vegas, Archer Aviation Inc. won a competitive bid to acquire Lilium GmbH's portfolio of ~300 patent assets for 18M.
  • After multiple failed restructurings, including a last-ditch bid by Mobile Uplift Corporation, a bankruptcy administrator put Lilium GmbH's assets through a competitive bid process.
  • Spanning core eVTOL innovations, the portfolio includes ducted fans, propeller systems, high-voltage systems, battery management, aircraft design, flight controls and electric engines, strengthening Archer's global patent portfolio with over 1,000 assets.
  • Archer beat Ambitious Air Mobility Group and U.S.-based Joby Aviation , saying Lilium's ducted fan technology could unlock light-sport and regional electric flight.
  • The transaction follows industry consolidation, including the Volocopter acquisition, and positions Archer — with its 2021 SPAC listing and defense program with Anduril — to expand markets.
