Sacramento Immigrant Community Fears Rise After Home Depot Raid
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, JUL 23 – The program provides meals, groceries, and medicine through over 200 parishes to immigrant families affected by enforcement raids, raising more than $100,000 in donations so far.
- On July 23, 2025, Archbishop José H. Gomez, alongside community partners, inaugurated the Family Assistance Program at St. Patrick’s parish in South Los Angeles to support immigrant families affected by recent immigration enforcement.
- This program arose due to increased ICE enforcement actions starting in early June, which have caused fear, anxiety, and financial hardship among immigrant communities across Southern California.
- The program supports families unable to cover essential needs or attend church by delivering groceries, meals, and prescriptions through a network of more than 200 parishes throughout the greater Southern California region served by the Archdiocese.
- Rick Caruso contributed $50,000 initially and promised to match an additional $50,000 in donations, while a group representing Latino business leaders committed $10,000 to back the ministry, which Gomez characterized as a critical act of compassion.
- The program aims to prevent homelessness among vulnerable families and reflects ongoing efforts to address the community's fear of arrest, deportation, and social isolation amid federal immigration enforcement challenges.
