Archangel Lightworks and Omantel establish a strategic partnership to bring laser communications to Oman
Omantel and Archangel Lightworks will run phased trials starting 2026 to integrate laser-optic satellite ground stations and explore Ground Station as a Service for emerging constellations.
- On Dec. 16, 2025, Omantel and Archangel Lightworks announced a signed agreement in Muscat to accelerate satellite and optical communication services and introduce laser-optic ground station technologies.
- Driven by Oman Vision 2040, the Smart Industry Initiative linked the British Omani Society, BSG International and Oxford Science Enterprises, underpinning Omantel's investment in emerging technologies.
- The programme will explore Ground Station as a Service for emerging constellations, trial hybrid RF-optical satellite data downlinks, and run phased proof-of-concept trials from 2026 to validate the TERRA-M miniature Optical Ground Station with joint R&D targeting next-generation systems.
- Better connecting space and ground networks will improve resilience, capacity and capability by linking non-terrestrial and terrestrial networks for cloud providers, network operators and governments using TERRA-M.
