Arc Raiders Is Going Back to Its Pre-Release Roots, as Its Announces a New PvE "Test" to Accommodate Its Surprisingly Friendly Players
Embark Studios will monitor player economy and matchmaking as it tests a non-damage lobby option and gathers feedback on whether PvE is feasible.
Embark Studios announced it will test a PvE mode for Arc Raiders from October 13 to October 20, allowing players to seamlessly switch between lobbies where they can fight other players and lobbies where players cannot damage each other.
Data demonstrated that a sizable amount of players ignored or tried to avoid combat against other players; 51% of the surveyed player base expressed interest in a dedicated PvE option, with over 70% of Friendly players and 40% of PvP players desiring fewer hostile encounters.
ARCs will target downed players to create tension, though the studio warned this is "not a risk-free test." Additionally, loot in PvE will be lower-valued because the mode has lower stakes.
Embark will monitor the player economy and matchmaking times during the trial period. Either way, the community must provide actionable feedback to determine whether Arc Raiders can sustain PvE as a permanent feature.
The team noted that "it's possible that this will not work," meaning PvE may not actually make its way into the game permanently; they will test how well it operates rather than guarantee permanent implementation.
