- On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
- The two ministers last connected in Bishkek on September 1 during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, where they reaffirmed continued engagement; earlier this month, Dar and Araghchi also spoke by telephone.
- Dar stressed that "dialogue and diplomacy remain essential" to regional peace and stability, asserting that implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Iran represents the "only way forward."
- Following the signing of the Islamabad MoU in June, Pakistan continues to facilitate US-Iran engagement, with four-party talks held in Switzerland involving Pakistan and Qatar as mediators.
- More recently, Iran stated it exchanged messages with the US through Qatari mediation on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, with Tehran conveying conditions for reviving diplomacy.
