Govt to Build Rs3b Aquaculture Park
MARSAXLOKK, MALTA, JUL 18 – Malta transfers public land to establish its first dedicated aquaculture and fisheries research centre to support sustainable fish farming and create high-quality jobs.
- Approving the land transfer, Owen Bonnici enabled construction of Malta’s first dedicated aquaculture and fisheries research centre.
- Facing urgent species depletion, Malta is bolstering aquaculture research under Vision 2050; the Maltese Government states the agency will achieve targets outlined in the strategy.
- Aquatic Resources Malta, led by Chief Executive Dr Frank Fabri, began operations in 2024 and conducts research and innovation projects to boost local fisheries and create high-quality jobs.
- Alicia Bugeja Said said the centre “positions Malta as a leading Mediterranean hub”, promising economic growth and quality job creation.
- Under the “Maritime at 100” Vision, Malta aims to grow its maritime sector into a $100 billion economic force by 2047, tapping its 1000-kilometre-long coastline.
