Apple TV partners with IMAX to show Formula 1 races live in theaters
- On Thursday, Imax and Apple TV announced they will bring the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship live to select U.S. theaters, showing five Grands Prix across at least 50 Imax locations nationwide.
- Building on a prior Imax–Apple collaboration, the announcement follows 'F1: The Movie', which became the top-grossing Imax Hollywood release in 2025 with $97.6 million in receipts, after Apple secured U.S. F1 broadcast rights in October via a five-year deal.
- Starting March 7, Formula One will stream exclusively on Apple TV, with the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, 2026, and the United States Grand Prix on October 25, 2026, in theaters.
- Imax framed the partnership as amplifying Apple’s live coverage and giving U.S. Formula 1 fans an 'all-new way to experience' the sport in Imax theaters.
- After re-releasing the film on Jan. 30, Imax's programming strategy aims to expand cinemas beyond theatrical movies into live sports and music concert events.
