Apple to Unify Sign in With Apple and Hide My Email on One Domain
Apple says new private email addresses will move to private.icloud.com, while existing addresses keep forwarding mail without interruption.
Apple announced it will unify email domains for Sign in with Apple and iCloud+ Hide My Email under a single shared domain, private.icloud.com, later this summer.
Currently, Sign in with Apple uses privaterelay.appleid.com while Hide My Email uses icloud.com, creating domain fragmentation that complicates backend management across both privacy features.
Existing addresses will continue functioning without interruption, but developers must update account systems, email validation logic, and allowlists to accept private.icloud.com alongside existing domains.
Some users on Reddit criticized the change, claiming it could make it easier for websites to identify and block anonymous sign-ups, though Apple provided no comment regarding the motivation.
The Trump administration has sought to unmask anonymous accounts via subpoenas over the past year, and earlier this year Apple turned over user information regarding an allegedly threatening email to the girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel.
