Apple Wants You to Verify Your Identity Before You Get Education Discount on Products
Apple said the change will verify eligible buyers and add Apple Watch models to Education Store discounts of up to 10%.
Starting yesterday, May 8, 2026, Apple now requires formal identity verification via UNiDAYS for all Education Store purchases in the United States, Canada, and Chile, ending the informal honor system that was in place for years.
Previously, Apple relied on an honor system for U.S. and Canadian shoppers with no established academic verification requirement. The company briefly partnered with UNiDAYS in 2022 but backtracked two days later following user complaints.
To complete verification, customers must use the UNiDAYS platform with school portals or identification cards. Homeschool teachers can provide government-issued IDs alongside documentation like a Letter of Intent.
Alongside the new verification, Apple has added the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra 3 to the Education Store, offering students and teachers up to a 10 percent discount.
This verification rollout extends to Australia, Hong Kong, and Turkey, while purchase limits remain unchanged at one Mac or two iPads per year across all eligible markets.
Since May 8, 2026, Apple has imposed an identity check via UNiDays to purchase from its Apple Education Store in the United States, Canada and Chile. The end of a trust system that left almost anyone with a 10% discount.
