Ford’s Upcoming $30,000 Mid-Size Electric Truck Will Guide Itself on Native Apple Maps

- Ford is developing the Universal Electric Vehicle Platform to underpin a midsize electric pickup that CEO Jim Farley confirmed will be priced around $30,000, eventually supporting SUVs and commercial vans.
- Unlike Apple CarPlay, the new MapKit for Automotive SDK runs natively in the vehicle to provide EV routing, charging station search, and battery preconditioning integrated directly into Ford's display.
- Ford's Latitude AI is using 'road-level information' from Apple Maps to advance BlueCruise, aiming to 'deliver a more seamless on-ramp-to-off-ramp experience,' the company said.
- Ford targets eyes-off driving by 2028, planning to evolve toward 'point-to-point autonomy' similar to Tesla's Full Self-Driving software as it refines autonomous capabilities.
