Appeals court sides with Trump in fight over subpoena of gender-affirming care provider
A federal appeals court ruled that President Donald Trump's effort to end gender-affirming care is not improper and cannot stop a Justice Department subpoena against a transgender youth healthcare provider.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found the treatments' effectiveness and long-term risks to be uncertain and upheld the president's authority to set Justice Department enforcement priorities aligning with policy goals.
The court reversed a previous decision that quashed the subpoena against telemedicine provider QueerDoc and sent the case back to district court for further consideration.
The subpoena demands QueerDoc's personnel files, billing records, communications with drug manufacturers, and patient records related to puberty blockers or hormone therapy.
