Anurag Jain Takes Helm of NITI Aayog as New CEO
The appointment fills the vacancy after NITI Aayog’s previous chief completed an extended term and an interim CEO was named.
- On Wednesday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed senior Indian Administrative Services officer Anurag Jain as Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog for a two-year term.
- Jain fills a leadership gap following the departure of CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, whose extended tenure ended February 24, 2026; Nidhi Chhibber, Director General of NITI Aayog's Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office, served as interim CEO.
- The new CEO brings decades of experience in public administration and infrastructure, previously serving as Secretary, Road Transport and Highways, and at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.
- Jain will now help shape the Modi-led Central government's long-term economic roadmap while coordinating with states to advance the Viksit Bharat 2047 agenda.
- Before this role, Jain served as Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh; he holds an Electrical Engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur and a Master's in Public Administration from the Maxwell School in the USA.
