- Serving as a Brain Tumour Research Patron, Burrell campaigned in Holyrood and Westminster for increased funding and better diagnostic times. She also helped establish the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre to advance clinical trials for glioblastoma treatments.
- Brain Tumour Research CEO Dan Knowles paid tribute, saying Burrell was "phenomenal, determined and truly inspiring." The charity stated she was "absolutely determined to make a difference for others" and will drive their mission forward.
- Glioblastoma remains incurable, with around 3,200 people diagnosed annually in the UK, of whom only around 160 live for five years or more. Burrell's advocacy highlighted the urgent need for advanced treatments and increased research funding.
