Yemen Group Used AI as Engineers to Design Guided Rocket, 2,000km Ballistic Missile: Anthropic

  • Iranian domestic security units used Claude to scrape more than 155,000 tweets for profiling citizens, while separate actors utilized the model for designs including a multi-stage ballistic missile with a range above 2,000 kilometres and a hypersonic glide variant.
  • In Bamako, a consultant assessed as working with Mali's intelligence service used Claude to monitor 25 million SIM cards, while another network operated about 70 fabricated news websites targeting audiences in the United States, Brazil, France, and Congo.
  • Anthropic banned the accounts and tightened filters, sharing findings with authorities where appropriate; the firm found no evidence that a government directed the influence operation before it closed the network, which produced at least 8,913 articles.
  • Operations linked to Alibaba, Moonshot, and DeepSeek hoovered Claude's reasoning traces at an industrial scale, with more than 151 million exchanges in one campaign. These findings coincide with European rules adopted over the past two years that set duties on transparency and risk assessment.
