Anthony Richardson Wins Backup Quarterback Job for Colts, Keenan Allen Stays Mum on Arrest

On Thursday, head coach Shane Steichen announced Anthony Richardson will serve as the Indianapolis Colts' primary backup quarterback behind starter Daniel Jones for the upcoming season.
Richardson secured the role after a training camp competition against second-year quarterback Riley Leonard, confirming General Manager Chris Ballard's assertion earlier this week that the quarterback would remain with the team this season.
"I'm just thankful they believe in me enough to promote me to QB2," Richardson said of the decision. The team views him as insurance should starter Jones struggle with health or performance.
The Indianapolis Colts open the season at home on Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Baltimore Ravens, led by MVP Lamar Jackson and new head coach Jesse Minter.
Selected in the 2023 NFL Draft as the franchise quarterback, Richardson enters the final year of his contract amid a career marked by significant injury setbacks and performance challenges.
