Anthony Hopkins, 88, signs record deal as a composer
On Friday, 88-year-old Sir Anthony Hopkins signed with Decca Classics to release his debut album Life Is a Dream, with the label simultaneously releasing the first single, Bracken Road.
Sir Anthony has composed music for six decades, beginning piano at age four and drawing on memories of Port Talbot, childhood visits, and his early career at the Liverpool Playhouse.
Grammy Award-winning conductor Gustavo Dudamel leads the Philharmonia Orchestra on the record, with Sir Anthony praising Maestro Gustavo Dudamel for transforming notes with "profound and indelible meaning."
Sir Anthony described the deal as his "first desire," adding he wrote Fatherland to "honour my humble beginnings," stating "I am the son of my father, the baker."
The album Life Is a Dream releases August 21, with Decca Classics President Laura Monks calling the recording a "once-in-a-lifetime experience" that will be brought to the world.
Decca Records will premiere on August 21 a collection of orchestral works composed over six decades by the Oscar's double winner, performed by London's Philharmonia Orchestra
